St.Helens Council supports national Fuel Poverty Awareness Day

St.Helens residents can learn more about staying warm and keeping fuel
bills low at the Affordable Warmth Event 2015.

Organised by St.Helens Council, the event will take place on Thursday 26
February from 10:30am to 3pm in the Assembly Hall at St.Helens Town Hall.

The event is part of a wider programme of activities taking place to mark
Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, a national campaign that aims to highlight the
reality of those living in fuel poverty and  explore the solutions
available to tackle the current ‘cold homes crisis’.

Fuel Poverty Awareness Day is organised by fuel poverty charity National
Energy Action, and supported by SSE, and St.Helens Council is using the
event to raise awareness of problems facing local people who struggle to
heat their homes, and the role that energy efficiency can play in making
their homes warmer, more comfortable, and cheaper to heat.

Maria Wardrobe, Director of External Affairs at NEA said “I would like to
thank St.Helens Council for supporting Fuel Poverty Awareness Day. Fuel
poverty is currently at crisis levels, and the more organisations and
individuals that become involved in the campaign, the further the energy
efficiency message spreads; helping ensure more vulnerable people receive
the help they deserve.”

You’ll be able to chat to many other local services, including the
Council’s Home Improvement Agency, Age UK, St.Helens Senior Voice,
Scottishpower, Health Improvement Team, St.Helens CAB.

The Health Checks Service Team will also be at the event, offering gentle
exercise sessions and information on cooking on a budget.

Cllr Richard McCauley said: “St.Helens Council is delighted to be
supporting Fuel Poverty Awareness Day. The Affordable Warmth Event will
provide advice and information to help people keep warm this winter and
save money on their fuel bills”

Soup and light refreshments will be available throughout the day.
