Sue to lead Public Health team

St Helens Council has appointed Sue Forster as Interim Director of Public Health.

Previously Assistant Director of Public Health, Sue replaces Liz Gaulton who has moved to take up a new role with Coventry City Council.

Sue will now lead on public health and wellbeing for the council – covering health improvement services such as drugs, alcohol, tobacco control, sexual health and weight management services; commissioning of children’s services; arts and culture; libraries; adult community learning and the youth and music services.

Born in Windle, the daughter of a police officer, Sue has worked in public health since 1993 when she joined Sefton Health Authority as a public health analyst.  In 2000 she joined the North West Public Health Training Scheme where she trained across East and South Lancashire before getting her first substantive post in West Lancashire Primary Care Trust.

She moved to St Helens in 2004 and has worked as a public health consultant and operational director before joining the council in 2013 as an Assistant Director of Public Health.

“I’m passionate about public health,” said Sue, “and particularly in addressing health and social inequalities. I want to ensure there’s the right support in the borough to enable people to stay healthy and recover from ill health.”

Sue is also the lead officer on the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment programme and in the development of the local Health and Wellbeing Strategy.Caption: Sue Forster
