Another 32 residents have discovered the benefits of recycling, after being
announced December’s winners of St Helens Council’s Recycling Rewards scheme, which has so far seen almost 9,000 people sign up to take part.
Funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government, a winner and runner up in each of the 16 wards across the borough received £50 or £25 worth of vouchers – in recognition of their improved recycling efforts.
Last month’s winners include Valerie from Billinge and William from
Blackbrook who both claimed £50 worth of B&Q vouchers, while Eleanor from Rainford and Paula from the town centre can enjoy a trip to the cinema after favouring Cineworld vouchers worth £50 and £25.
Each week, participating residents log their recycling activity online.
This, along with weighbridge records shows the wards that make the most
effort. The more you recycle the greater chance of receiving a reward.
St Helens Council’s Cabinet Member for Green, Smart and Sustainable
Borough, Councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron, said: “Congratulations to the second batch of winners who have realised just how rewarding recycling can be.
“As we look to reach the EU’s 50 per cent recycling target by 2020,
hopefully this incentive will pave the way for even more people to add to
the residents already signed up to this initiative, which has led to 20-30
tonnes more waste being recycled every week.
“If you haven’t signed up yet, get involved – you’ll be helping us to
protect the environment and earning exclusive discounts and vouchers.”
How to join the scheme
To start earning points and discounts, residents will need to activate
their account. They can do this online at
