With Christmas ahead, many of us will be gathering with family and friends
in celebration. But Christmas is also a time to reflect on the year and
remember those no longer with us.
That’s why each year, the Friends of St Helens Cemetery organise their
popular Tree of Remembrance service. Many residents braved the inclement weather to attend this year’s event and to hang personal messages of remembrance on the Christmas tree.
The service was led by Reverend Phillip Collard and attended by Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillors Steve and Lynn Glover, with music provided by Gareth Owen and the Citadel Choir. The Mayoress delivered her own heartfelt reading during the service in front of a packed congregation.
The tree will be on display in the cemetery’s Book of Remembrance building over the Christmas and New Year period, and visitors are welcome to contribute personalised leaf-shaped messages in memory of loved ones throughout this time.
